The ancient city of Diktyna, dedicated to the Cretan Goddess Diktyna, is only 10 km away. In the village of Rodopou there is a bakery and some traditional Kafenions.
Villa Menies is 100 years old, and is an old stone traditional village house with surrounding tall stone walls, which offer privacy and peace. On the vine covered patio full of burgeoning plants and colourful flowers, there is garden furniture, sun beds and an outdoor shower. On the patio whilst sunbathing or dining, one can admire the magnificent views over the village and the mountains.
On the ground floor, as well as a large sitting room, there is a spacious living area with an open plan well-equipped kitchen, and a dining room with a fireplace and TV. The sitting and dining rooms have been furnished with traditional wooden furniture, and are decorated with a collection of memorabilia and old family photographs. Also on the ground floor there is a bedroom with twin beds.
An open staircase leads out of the living room to the first floor, where there is a bath/WC and washing machine, and two cosy twin bedrooms. Further there is a balcony, which provides an excellent spot to observe the night sky.
On hot summer days the thick stone walls of the house help to keep the heat out, and there is central heating for the colder times of the year (at an extra charge). A car is recommended.
